Helpwell is a district-wide volunteer program set up to capitalize on the many talents and skills of our parents and extended community. Through our web-based system, Helpwell recruits and tracks community volunteers and matches them with opportunities to share expertise within the district.
Meet Our Team
Nancy Barich created Helpwell while PTO President of Bear Tavern Elementary School where she was a member, VP, and President for 5 years. While at Bear Tavern, she created and led Beartanical Gardens, a volunteer-led organic gardening program that partnered students, teachers, and parents in an initiative that still flourishes in her absence. Prior to that Nancy was a member of the Board of Pennington Montessori School and a Board of Trustee at Har Sinai Temple in Pennington. She has broad interests and expertise including being a certified Yoga instructor, a Master Gardener of Mercer County.
When she lived in New York City, Nancy worked in Marketing, Event and Meeting planning jobs at Non-Profit, Educational, and Commercial organizations. She is currently pursuing a Graduate Degree in Social Work at Bryn Mawr College Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. Nancy received her Bachelor’s in Political Science at The University of Michigan and her Graduate Teaching Degree at Columbia University.
She is the wife of Kyle Barich and mother of Griffin (20), Chelsea (18), and Kira Barich (16).
JoAnn Markiewicz is an accomplished professional, volunteer, wife, and mother who is always able to calmly lead teams to improve whatever situation and solve whatever problem might be in front of them. JoAnn has been a dedicated contributor to the Hopewell Valley community throughout her parenting years. Her responsibilities grew along with children as she took on the responsibilities of Hopewell Elementary PTO Treasurer for 5 years, followed by another 5-year tenure as Hopewell Elementary President. JoAnn moved on to lead the Timberlane Middle School PTO as President for 5 years. In the meantime, she partnered with Nancy Barich in the development of Helpwell (8 years) and was a 10-year leader of a Girl Scout troop.
Prior to joining the volunteer world, JoAnn was a Release/Project Management Vice President and Systems Test Manager at Merrill Lynch where she led teams in critical phases of financial software development.
JoAnn Markiewicz lives in the community with her husband Bob and children Sami (18) and Spencer (15).
Kathleen O’Connor is a long-time resident of the Hopewell Valley and has volunteered in many capacities within Hopewell Valley Regional School District, St. James Catholic Church, Hopewell Valley Pop Warner organization and has served on the Board of Directors for the Pennington Public Library.
She is married to Dan and has three children, John (19), Jimmy (17), and Billy (14).
